Hearts of Men

The Hearts of Men, by H Fielding. New York: The Macmillan Co. 1901.

LoC gives: Harold Fielding (1859-1917), possibly a pseudonym.

The British Library’s record for the UK edition of this book lists the author as: FIELDING, afterwards FIELDING-HALL, H., [i.e. Harold Fielding Patrick Hall.]

According to an interview with Sara Bard Field, Fielding was a British officer in Burma, who “was probably one of the best-informed men on Burma.” He had written an book prior to this one (The Soul of a People) about the Burmese and Buddhism.

This book seems to be a semi-autobiographical account of a young man’s search for a religion which makes sense to him. Or, it may be a work by a “Buddhist apologist” as Bill said after he scanned it.

In any case, it is about religion.
