Mirror of Taste, Vol 1 [1810]

title page

The Mirror of Taste and Dramatic Censor, Volume 1 (Jan-Jun 1810), edited by Stephen Cullen Carpenter. Philadelphia: Bradford and Inskeep, 1810.

According to this online exhibit, “The Mirror of Taste is noted as the most important theatrical journal of its time. This monthly periodical presented not only local reviews but also reviews of stage productions in London. The periodical also included biographies of theatre personalities, articles on theatre history, poetry, plays and book reviews.”

There are also sections on “sporting intelligence” and miscellany. Each issue came with an appendix, usually a play. Some issues have engravings, but unfortunately they’re not in my copy.

January 1810, includes The Foundling of the Forest by William Dimond: DP Project, PG 22488. Thanks to Louise Hope for post-processing this project.
