Studies in Mediæval Life and Literature, by Edward Tompkins McLaughlin. New York, London, G. P. Putnam’s Sons, 1894.
188 p. 20 cm.
McLaughlin, Edward T. (Edward Tompkins), 1860-1893.
Six essays on Mediæval poetry, including the story of Abelard and Heloise, “An Old German Gallant,” (Ulrich von Liechtenstein) and “Childhood in Mediæval Literature.”
There are a few paragraphs in Latin, French and Olde Englishe (but no ſ, þ, or ð), and quite a few poetical translations.
It’s quite readable, and was last reprinted in about 1972. This copy, however, is original.
I haven’t been able to find anything online about McLaughlin, other than he was a member of the Skull and Bones Club (at Yale, I presume). The introduction has some details of his life though, so when I get some text I’ll post it here.
