God and Mr. Wells: A Critical Examination of “God the Invisible King” by William Archer. New York: Alfred. A. Knopf, ©1917. LCCN: 17024674.
Archer does not give the edition of the book he’s quoting from, but one at Google Books seems to match up. (The Project Gutenberg edition doesn’t have page numbers.)
About The Author (from the fragment of dust jacket tucked into the book)
Mr. Archer is so well known in this country as to hardly require an introduction. However, it may be recorded that he was born at Perth, Scotland, the 23rd day of September, 1856, and was educated at Edinburgh University. He practiced journalism in Edinburgh, traveled in Australia, and came to London in 1878, where for three years he was dramatic critic of the London Figaro. He then spent two years in Italy and in 1884 resumed his critical work on various London papers. He is perhaps best known in this country as the editor and in part translator of the collected works of Henrik Ibsen.
