Woman, by Magdeleine Marx. Translated by Adele Szold Seltzer. Introduction by Henri Barbusse. New York: Thomas Seltzer, published 1920.

A perusal of contemporary reviews of this book (search google books for Ms. Marx’s name) indicates that it was trying to be a psychological rendering of the life of a free-thinking woman, but wasn’t. It is unclear if the problem lies in the original story or in the translation (unfortunately noted by one reviewer to be “as literal in places as a school boy’s version”).
